Kabaton (カバトン)? is a former general from the Undergu Empire, and a former villain from Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure. His catchphrases are "You're too weak!" (YOEEEE～！)? and "I'm Strongggg!" (オレ、TUEEE!)?.
Bio
Appearance
Kabaton is a large, anthropomorphic, purple pig with a dark purple gemstone embedded on his forehead. He has a pair of buck teeth, and red-marked eyes. His head is adorned with a dark blue mohawk, and he wears shoulder spikes, spiked gauntlets, a black vest, a dark red neck collar, and a pair of dark red suspenders with matching brown straps. He also has a red tattoo of a broken heart on his left shoulder, and his left ear is pierced with an earring.
He wears an additional light brown tie and a dark sage-colored buttoned office jacket and lacks his gauntlets when he is blending into human society.
As a Ranborg, he gained a black mask and became more gigantic in size.
Personality
Kabaton is a snarky pig with a gruff, rude, and arrogant attitude. He believes that power and strength is everything like those from Undergu Empire. He happily hurts and belittles those he considers to be weak, but cowers before those who are stronger than him. For someone who claims himself to be stronger than others, he does nothing but put others down in order to make himself feel superior than them in terms of strength, and also relies on dirty tricks like turning himself into a piglet to trick Sora into falling for his trap. Kabaton has a very good memory, as he is able to remember his enemies' names. He is also a huge glutton.
Despite this, his actions and behavior towards others possibly stems from his mistreatment towards Empress Undergu whenever he fails to kidnap Ellee-chan and bring her to the Undergu Empire, hence why he's been acting tough the whole time. However, after he is saved by Cure Sky, he begins to acknowledge those who are strong by protecting others. He also becomes nicer after settling down in Sorashido City.
Relationships
- Sora Harewataru: Due to his goal to steal Ellee-chan and their opposing morals, Kabaton regards Sora as his main enemy. However, he finally acknowledges her being stronger than him after Cure Sky saves him.
- Empress Undergu: His boss. Empress Undergu used to be harsh towards him, but both now get along after the final battle.
- Minoton: His colleague. Due to their different personalities, Kabaton and Minoton used to have conflicts with each other, but now are able to get along after the final battle.
- Battamonda: His colleague. Kabaton is always at odds with Battamonda, whom he considers as weaker than him. Although both are now on friendlier terms, Battamonda's attitude can sometimes still clash with Kabaton's.
Etymology
The name Kabaton is a portmanteau of "kaba", meaning hippo in Japanese, and the measurement unit "tonne" . The 'ton' part of his name is also an alternate reading for the kanji 豚 meaning pig.
History
Kabaton pops out of a balloon pig and kidnaps Ellee-chan on her birthday. However, as he makes his escape, he is confronted by Sora, who takes Ellee-chan off him. Kabaton manages to take back the child with his fart attack, only to lose Ellee-chan once again when he floats into a rock when escaping via a portal. Later, he appears in Sorashido City to take back Ellee-chan, and summons a Ranborg from a land excavator to help defeat Sora. During the confrontation, he picks up Sora's hero diary and tears the pages out while making fun of Sora's dream. However, to his dismay, Sora transforms into a Pretty Cure and defeats his Ranborg. With no way to defend himself against such a powerful fighter, Kabaton teleports away.HSPC01
While the three girls are searching for a Sky Jewel, Kabaton appears and reveals himself to be the culprit behind the rock tower. He summons a Ranborg, which almost attacks Mashiro and Ellee-chan until Sky blocks its attacks. Impatient, Kabaton orders the Ranborg to speed up, unintentionally motivating Sky instead. After his failure, he tries to summon another Ranborg after eating some poisonous mushrooms, resulting in him getting a stomachache, prompting Sky to tell him what Mashiro said about touching things that you don't know, and Kabaton is forced to retreat instead.HSPC03
Kabaton later pretends to be a piglet who is walking into his own trap. Mashiro sees through his trick, but Sora falls for it and decides to save him anyway. He immediately reveals himself and captures Sora, and also steals her Mirage Pen, while also summoning two Ranborgs with the poisonous mushrooms he has. He decides to discourage Mashiro to stop her from taking the Mirage Pen by calling her a side character, only for Ageha to encourage Mashiro instead. He is caught off guard by Cure Prism's arrival, and retreats after his two Ranborgs are defeated.HSPC04
Due to being threatened by Empress Undergu, Kabaton gets serious after stress-eating oden, by exerting all his calories into summoning a strong Ranborg. He easily overpowers Sky, and almost gets his hands on Ellee-chan, until both Sky and Prism gain their new attack Updraft Shining, prompting him to panic and escape before his Ranborg is purified. HSPC05 He later temporarily infiltrates Sorashido Academy after being hit by Sora's ball. There, he eats up all of the school's food, and turns the school's cherry blossom tree into a Ranborg, only to be defeated by both Sky and Prism.HSPC07
Kabaton later turns a UFO toy into a Ranborg and destroys the city, making him strong enough to overwhelm Sky and Prism.HSPC08 When he sees Tsubasa attempting to save Ellee-chan, he mocks the bird and captures Ellee-chan anyway. When he lets his guard down and brags to his boss, he soon realizes Tsubasa is taking Ellee-chan away and chases after Tsubasa. Just as he is going to kidnap Ellee-chan again, he is shocked to see Tsubasa receiving his Sky Mirage, so he tries to interfere, only for Sky to stop him temporarily. In the end, Kabaton's UFO Ranborg is damaged by Cure Wing's Wing Attack, and he retreats before Sky and Prism purify the Ranborg.HSPC09
Kabaton later disguises as a conductor to hijack Mount Raso's aerial cableway by turning one of the cable cars into a Ranborg. This Ranborg takes Ellee-chan and Ageha hostage, until his Ranborg gets tricked by Ageha. After losing to the Cures again, Kabaton sulks until he is greeted by Empress Undergu. Kabaton is told he has one last chance as a lightning bolt hits an object near him, leaving Kabaton desperate to fulfill his mission once and for all.HSPC11
Kabaton soon stops Sora, Mashiro and Tsubasa on the street after venting his grievances to the oden stall owner. He challenges Sora to a duel that will begin in three days. During the three days, he stores up his Undergu Energy, which he uses to turn himself into a Ranborg. However, Sky manages to overpower him with Sky Punch, but he breaks his promise and tries to kidnap Ellee-chan anyway. After both Sky and Prism purify him with Updraft Shining, Kabaton finally admits that the weak cannot be tolerated in Undergu Empire, when he is suddenly levitated into the darkened sky. Realizing Empress Undergu is going to kill him off, Kabaton begs for forgiveness. After Sky saves him from being struck by lightning, Kabaton finally realizes what true strength is, and acknowledges Sky before falling into a river. He later decides to stay in Sorashido City to begin a new life.HSPC12
Sometime later, he is revealed to have settled down in Sorashido City as a sweet potato seller, and is enjoying his life.HSPC41 He later heads to Sky Land with Minoton to help protect its citizens and Cure Wing from the Ranborgs.HSPC48 After the final battle, he decides to stick with Empress Undergu, even begging her to make him a doll modeled after him. When the Empress ask the former generals why they're sticking with her, Kabaton thinks it's the right thing to do. He, along with Minoton, is last seen scolding Battamonda, which unknowingly amuses the Empress.HSPC50
Abilities
- Summoning Ranborgs: Kabaton is able to summon Ranborgs by saying the phrase "C'mon! Undergu Energy!" (カモン！アンダーグ・エナジー！)?. He is also able to use this Undergu Energy on himself.
- Black smoke: Kabaton has the ability to produce black smoke to temporarily stop or blind his enemies.
- Fart Attacks: Kabaton can produce powerful farts that can stun his enemies. For example, he once farted in Sora's face, causing her to cover her face and cough, which allowed Kabaton to take Ellee-chan back. Additionally, his farts can also be used to purify Ranborgs.
- Size Manipulation: Kabaton has the ability to shrink himself to deceive his enemies by posing as a piglet, enabling him to steal Sora's Mirage Pen.
- Teleportation: Kabaton can teleport himself away from one location to another by using his forehead's gemstone and saying "Kabaton-ton!"
Trivia
- Kabaton shares his voice actor with Nono Shintarou, a minor character from HUGtto! Pretty Cure.
- A running gag involves Kabaton being misnamed, such as "katsudon" (pork bowl rice) and "zabuton" (sitting futon), which subsequently irritates him.
- Kabaton often breaks the fourth wall by calling non-Cure characters "side characters".
- He burns his calories whenever he summons a Ranborg. If he exerts too many calories, he will become very thin, although he tends to regain his weight by overeating.
- Kabaton, along with Minoton, are the only Undergu Empire members who didn't summon a Ranborg in Sky Land.
- They're also the only anthropomorphic animals of the empire.
- Kabaton was next door neighbours with Battamonda in a rundown apartment when he was living in Sorashido City.HSPC34
- Kabaton was the only villain from the Undergu Empire who did not have an onscreen interaction with Skearhead.
