Debut! Star Detective Pretty Cure! (誕生！名探偵プリキュア！ Tanjō! Meitantei Purikyua!)? is the 1st episode of Meitantei Pretty Cure! and is the 1068th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.
Summary
On Akechi Anna's 14th birthday, she puts on a pendant and meets a fairy named Pochitan.

Synopsis
In the year 2027 in Makoto Mirai, Anna is on her way to celebrate her 14th birthday with her mother. She then notices a little girl crying next to the bushes and approaches to ask her what's wrong. She sees the girl is missing a ribbon from her hair, so Anna tells her mom to watch over the cake she was holding while she tries to find the other ribbon. She digs through the bushes and manages to find the missing ribbon, cheering up the little girl.
Later, at an apartment, Anna opens her cake box and gushes over how delicious it looks. She then goes to her room to get ready. When she takes off her coat, she notices a pendant lying on her desk. Thinking it's a birthday gift, she gets excited and thanks her mom, who is confused as she had promised to buy Anna a smartphone as a birthday present. Anna puts on the pendant and shows off in the mirror. Suddenly, she hears a strange voice, and that's when a fairy named Pochitan flies out of the closet onto Anna's chest. Anna is bewildered as to how Pochitan can speak, but Pochitan shushes her before she can say a word. She then tells her to come with her using the pendant as Anna slips backwards. The pendant opens and lights up, and Anna and Pochitan disappear in a flash. Anna's mom goes to her daughter's room, confused about the racket, but when she opens the door, she doesn't find her there.
In the year 1999, Mikuru stands outside of the CUREtto Detective Agency, excited about passing a "test". She is about to knock, but something startles her from behind. She runs out into the open and looks at the sky, seeing a large bright orb. She squints and Anna suddenly pops out with Pochitan in her hands, screaming. Mikuru also screams as Anna is about to fall on top of her, but Pochitan grows in size, making a safe landing for Anna, and crushing Mikuru in the process. Pochitan shrinks back to normal as Anna begins to question her surroundings and how the pendant transported her to where she is now. She frantically shakes Pochitan for answers, but when Mikuru regains consciousness, she notices the little fairy next to Anna. Mikuru then asks if Anna is a part of the CUREtto Detective Agency, confusing Anna. Mikuru introduces herself, and so does Anna, but she quickly gets back on topic and asks about how she recognized Pochitan as a fairy and how she got here. This makes Mikuru think that the test she mentioned before has begun. She then goes on to state how the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, could tell where a person has been by the marks on their shoes. But when she looks down, Anna isn't wearing any.
Mikuru takes Anna to a shoe shop, where Anna tries on some new boots. She then holds out another pair, asking which ones she should buy. Mikuru tells her to get the purple ones, but she quickly moves on to how Anna fell into here from her room. Seeing how Pochitan is now wearing a pacifier, she notes that she has turned into a baby and can't speak properly unlike back in the present. Suddenly, Pochitan runs off, dragging Anna along with her. Mikuru quickly pays for Anna's shoes and chases after Anna and Pochitan. They find themselves at a wedding hall, where the bride, Souda Mari, is distressed because she has lost her precious tiara.
Anna and Mikuru decide to help search for the tiara, and they question three people who were coming and going from the bride's dressing room, but they can't get any useful clues. As the ceremony approaches, Mikuru is upset. Hearing Mikuru's desire to become a Star Detective to help people in need, Anna takes Mikuru's hand and convinces her to investigate again. At that moment, the wind blows Mikuru's ribbon away, carrying it to a nearby bush. Seeing this, Anna remembers helping the girl in 2027, and something clicks in her mind.
When Anna and Mikuru arrive at the dressing room, Anna reveals that of the three people she questioned, Mari's friend, Tomoka, is the culprit. Anna's deduced that Tomoka had hidden the tiara in the bouquet and intended to steal it after catching it during the bouquet toss. However, Tomoka's true identity was Nijee, a Phantom Thief from the Phantom Thieves' Guild who was after the Makoto Jewel residing in the tiara, in disguise. During the chase, Anna and Mikuru are frozen in fear because of the Hanninda that Nijee has unleashed. But as if responding to their trembling determination to retrieve the tiara, the pendants Anna and Mikuru were wearing began to glow. This allows Anna to transform into Cure Answer, and Mikuru into Cure Mystique. With their new found power, Answer and Mystique purified the Hanninda and retrieved the tiara, allowing the wedding to proceed without incident. However, as Answer was about to head home, Mystique informs her that it is April 1999, causing Answer to realize she has time-slipped into the past.

- With Anna celebrating her birthday in this episode, the date the events take place is January 24th of 2027.
- That is, until she travels back in time, to April 2nd of 1999, as revealed by Cure Mystique at the end of the episode.
