I Will Protect You! (私が、あなたを守る！ Watashi ga, Anata wo Mamoru!)? is the 17th episode of Wonderful Pretty Cure! and is the 985th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.
Summary
The season of animal babies has come to Animal Town. Komugi and the others go on a "Baby Animal Tour" but while they are at it, a Garugaru appears.
Major Events
- Yuki reveals herself to be Cure Nyammy, and turns into a human in front of Mayu, Satoru and the Cures for the first time. Yuki also reveals to everyone that she's able to talk while she's a cat too.
- Nyammy's transformation is also shown for the first time.
Synopsis
Mayu is packing to go on a baby animal tour with Iroha and this reminds Sumire of when Mayu herself was a baby. When she was born, she brought a new life to their house that wasn't there before. Mayu says she felt the same way when she first rescued Yuki and it brought a different light to her room. This leads Sumire to add that she finds Yuki to be more like an older sister.
Mayu arrives at the Mirror Stone earlier than the others and wishes that she could see Cure Nyammy again. She suddenly sees a shadow of a cat passing by, but she doesn't find anything behind her. Then, Iroha, Komugi, and Satoru arrive and they're all excited to start the tour. After Iroha explains what baby animals season is, they go on their way.
First, they stop by a flower shop with a swallow's nest where a mother is raising her young. The owner joins them and explains that the swallows nest here every year, and Satoru adds how places with swallows' nests will have good luck. Next, they go to the park and find several baby animals, including some squirrels, a fawn with her mother, and a group of bunnies. Throughout the tour, Mayu gushes about how cute the babies are and even imagines herself snuggling with the family of bunnies.
The next stop on the tour is Iroha's house, where Youko has recently helped a cat give birth to a litter of kittens. The owner allowed them to be part of the tour and is grateful for Youko's assistance. Watching the mother cat take care of her babies reminds Mayu of something. They then return to the park and observe a spot-billed duck and its family swimming before they move to a place with more food for their babies. Hearing about food causes Komugi's stomach to growl and they decide to have lunch.
For lunch, Satoru has made a lot of food, while Mayu brings some cookies for everyone and treats for Komugi. Iroha brings some rice balls that are supposed to resemble Komugi, but they're all burnt. While they eat, Mayu hesitates to eat the rabbit-shaped sandwiches Satoru made because of how cute it looks, but after seeing Iroha enjoy it, she takes a bite and comes to like it as well.
After lunch, the group talks about their day and Mayu mentions how watching the kittens made her wonder if that was what Yuki looked like as one because they met when she was older. Mayu also says that Yuki might not have experienced such cold and loneliness if she'd have met her sooner. She apologizes for bringing it up, but Iroha and Komugi don't mind and compliment her kindness towards Yuki. Unbeknownst to them, Yuki is listening in on their conversation. Suddenly, another Garugaru egg hatches, and Komugi and Yuki become alert.
The tiger Garugaru prowls into town, but the Cures stand in its way and transform while Satoru and Mayu hide. The Cures dodge the Garugaru's first attack, but its impact creates a crack in the road. The Garugaru's claws could seriously hurt the Cures if they come in contact with them, so they try to evade its attacks but barely manage to. While the Cures try to figure out how to get close to the Garugaru, Mayu notices a family of ducks attempting to cross the road. A bigger crack starts forming in the road, so Mayu hurries to rescue them from danger. One of the ducklings starts to fall through the crack, but Mayu saves it in time. Unfortunately, this gets the Garugaru's attention and it chases after her, with the Cures quickly trying to reach her.
Just as the Garugaru is about to kill Mayu, Yuki suddenly jumps in to protect her. Everyone is shocked to see her manage to stop the Garugaru in its track. Then, to even more of their surprise, Yuki starts talking and then transforms into a human. The Cures are flummoxed while Mayu immediately realizes that Yuki was the girl she met at the Mirror Stone. She apologizes for getting in the way, but Yuki tells her not to worry and to remain kind while she protects her from getting hurt. Yuki holds up her Shiny Cats Pact and transforms into the Cure they have been searching for: Cure Nyammy!
The Garugaru tries to attack Nyammy, but she blocks it with a single kick and sends it falling. She leads the Garugaru away while the other Cures check if Mayu is okay and reunite the duckling with its family before joining Nyammy. While she fights the Garugaru, Nyammy recalls how she thought she would be fine on her own until she realized how cold and alone she really felt before meeting Mayu. She also tells Mayu not to regret anything because of how they became friends as they met. Using her Nyammy Shield, she pushes the Garugaru far back as everyone else reaches her. Nyammy picks up Mayu and leaves, leaving Wonderful and Friendy to purify the Garugaru with Friend Liberale, turning it back into a Niko Tiger that they send back to the Niko Garden.
Komugi, Iroha, and Satoru return to Yuki and Mayu after the battle, and Mayu tries to apologize again, but Yuki sternly asks her why. Komugi hopes Yuki will join them, but she only wants to protect Mayu and claims that Komugi and Iroha are putting her in danger and tells them not to associate with Mayu anymore.
